I have spent a week researching all available synchronisers to keep my WHS in sync with numerous PCs/laptops I have. This was one of the last programs to look at. I couldn't believe how uncluttered the user screen was - many others present a frightening sea of complex left-right actions. Once I had figured out *not* to send file security info from the PC to the WHS (it inhibited data transfer) this worked. Simply, cleanly, and without all that terrifying information about how it is working. The user manual is an example of how to write. Don't be fooled by the simplicity of the user interface. This is an excellent program. And unlike some, it does not have an expensive "server edition" - this does work on WHS. Good job.

Been using SC2000 for several years, through four versions of Windows, including 7 Ultimate. Haven't found anything that compares with the simplicity and utility. The fact that it saves data in a format that does not require additional software to restore it is a big plus. I can readily take my external drive to a completely different PC and view my data and copy it as needed is great!

SC gets my vote for best utility of all time. SC is fully deserving of their awards for Best Overall Utility, and their service is second to none. I've used it for years, and the one time I had a problem, their support were fabulous! They doggedly worked with me until the problem was resolved. The program is dead easy to use, it has loads of terrific options, and is 100% reliable. If you value your personal files, and you don't have a backup solution in place, get an external drive and go no further than Second Copy for the software. It's money well spent.

Their responses to my e-mail inquiries were prompt and helpful, and I am so grateful to them. Second Copy is wonderful.

Hi, I love your software especially how it shows which folder has been updated in the modified column not just a broad date change. Please dont make the program huge with too many options. Keep it simple as I think that is why most people love it...at least that's why i do.

I personally have used SecCopy since 2002, I bought a business and it is what they used and i used it since. But, i am now looking for a program to resell (we do IT outsourcing and set up businesses with their networking, etc) I would resell SecCopy - but it does not have File In Use feature as some new other programs have. Can this feature be added soon. ?

I run lots of programs. Good ones. Crummy ones. They work great. They crash. Part of life. I have been running Second Copy for at least five or six years now, and it is probably the only program I know I can completely depend upon. 100%. In six years I've gotten one error message, and it was because I had screwed up. Second Copy is simple, intuitive, easy to set up and operate, the most reliable, hardest working, save-my-butt program I own and run. Damn fine job.

I have used SC for 10 years, but yesterday was the first time I have tried anything as ambitious as copying an entire HD to an external HD. C:\ to E:\ just like that. It took about 8 hours overnight using "Exact copy", but didn't fall over - woke up this morning - job done. 138,786 files copied according to the log file! (Is this a record) I've always been impressed with this software. I'm now mega-impressed! Peter

I have one proposal to make. How about a function that monitors running programs and copies files after this application has started or ended. Good example is Outlook. When it ends Second Copy could save the PST files. Maybe in a future version. I am looking forward in seeing this one day. Otherwise, excelent software, I don't want anything else. Minimal memory usage & negligible CPU load when running in the background. **Great set of useful, well thought out, options** from basic to advanced, reasonably priced, works as advertised, 30 day fully functional trial download. Really like options to have file copies NOT be in some encrypted/compressed format different than the original and ability to store deleted files/folders for retrieval even after you've emptied Windows Recycle Bin! Excellent value and functionality for the money.

Really good product. I love the way it prsesents to me everything that has changed before proceeding with a backup. And I love the backup archiving. One minor complaint - the process bar shows 100% when sometimes lengthy actions are still going on. Maybe the fundamental copy is complete but the archiving process is not? I found this timimg confusing. Othewise really appreciate the product which I use in addition to a drive image backup product (Acronis) that can restore a whole drive. Between the 2 I feel I have a very simple, clean backup solution. At low cost. Thanks very much.

I just gave a 48-hour trial to SugarSync. This software has received glowing reviews in The Wall St. Journal & Business Week. The concept is excellent, but the execution leaves a LOT to be desired. I recently purchased two external hard drives to back up the important files on my desktop. The hard drives came pre-installed with backup software which was buggy beyond belief. Therefore, I was forced to go out and purchase backup software. After trialing various software (and not being completely happy with my choices), I came upon Second Copy. Within a couple of hours after downloading the trial, I came back to your website to purchase a license. Second Copy is reasonably priced, easy to use, and performs flawlessly! Although I wasn't happy to have to go out and purchase backup software to replace the buggy software that came installed on my external hard drives, I have found Second Copy worth every penny I paid for it, and then some! Fabulous software!

I LOVE this program. On my top 5 best programs ever created! Here's a cool tip: I even use it to regulate my kid's daily access to certain programs on "his" computer. To do this, I set Second Copy to move the exe for the program I want to regulate to an "incorrect location" at a certain time every day, and then at another time in the day, I move the exe back to the right location. Therefore, he can only run the program at certain times of the day (when the exe is in the right folder). Works great!

The support team told me I would have to download a later version and I was having trouble getting it downloaded. I had numerous email conversations with the 2nd copy support team and they finally guided me to the problem which was with my browser. I was testing several backup progs and this one achieve what everyones really want from an application of this kind... 1. very customizable (choose what you want and back it up in many different types of back up flavors, plus other useful options to choose from) 2. adaptable (simple as the common user likes and powerful as the more demanding user wants) 3. efficient (after first backup, it just a snap keeping the last changed files backed up) 4. effective (instant access to the data if a original working data fail) Right now I'm recommending it to a Department that needs to maintain a constant trustful backup with less user-intervention and also with an instant access if anything goes wrong with the working data.

I have been using Second Copy 97 since, well, 1997.... 10 years of backing up data files. I cannot remember what I paid for it, but it is worth it's weight in gold... I am a fanatic about backing up data. And it finally paid off with the death of a hard drive holding 40G of data. While so many computer users lose a disk and are unable to recover their data, or must spend hundreds of dollars to recover all or some of their data, I just went and got a new drive and copied the data from my backup external drives. SC97 could carry me many more years, but the "Profile Group" tabs, and the "source" and "destination" profile columns are just too helpful to resist. SC2007 will soon take over backing up my system. These are clearly the best applications I have ever added to my computer.

I have just recovered from a failure where I lost my PC completely. I recovered all my files easily thanks to SecondCopy. Great stuff I compared products with a friend and I am sure that SecondCopy is better. However, he has one advantage, when copying Outlook files SecondCopy copies the whole offline folder each time. Connected Systems manges to copy just the changed data WITHIN the folder which makes it much quicker. Any chance of implementing this on a later version?

Dear Second Copy, I first used Second Copy with Windows 98 and was very satisfied with its ease of use. Over the years I’ve used several different backup programs to safe guard my files with varying degrees of success. Usually they work for awhile but when the time came to restore my critical files there were always issues where something was lost. I’ve been a registered user of Second Copy 7 ever since it came out and with all the experimentation with other backup programs I seem to always come back to your product. Even when trying out another program I make a Second Copy backup first, just to be sure. I guess this is a real testimony to just how stable and reliable your program is. No matter how far I stray I always come back home to Second Copy. I hope you continue to upgrade and perfect your program, and of course never go away. Thank you for being here, Jack Lindeman San Pedro, CA

As a registered user of Second Copy 2000 I was pleased with the improvements in Second Copy 7 and purchased an upgrade right away. It offers the same reliable and easy to use daily backup solution for use with my external hard disk. I prefer to backup files as copies for safety given bad experiences with backup software.

I learned about Second Copy from Consumer Reports magazine. I have tried vaious back up products and have always been disappointed. Most of the backup products create weird back up folders/files that are hard to recover. Moreover, most of the backup products create copies after copies of backup taking up lots of drive space. Not so with Second Copy. With the Exact Copy option chosen, you have an exact copy of your working folder at all time automatically. I back up my working folders to my NAS with Second Copy and it works correctly. Now I do not have to worry about when to back up my files or restoring my files when my drive crashes. Excellent product. Highly recommended.

I think Second Copy will be vary usefull to download music to audio player. Profile groups - some part of your collection to download at once. But it will be nice you to add option of calculating summary size of all files in profile group (it must be less then capacity of player and it help to make up such "quantum").

OUTSTANDING!!! 2nd Copy is solid. Radio is a business of high pressure deadlines that CANNOT be missed. So the more "set it & forget it" programs that we can have the better. But they just simply HAVE TO WORK! When I first installed 2nd Copy we couldn't get it running but the support emails were answered and together we got the software configured perfectly. It was great workiinng with support and we found a quick resolution. GOOD WORK!

I actually know of someone who backs up files on their Mac by running S.C. on their Windows machine. The Windows machine and their Mac is in a wireless setup and a Network storage drive is hard wire (ethernet) attached to the wireless router. The Windows machine runs the program, the Mac has the data, and the "LanDrive" is where the data is backed up to. Kind of cool.

Second Copy is easy to configure, operates automatically on a schedule set by the user, and effortlessly backs up files to a second drive: external, internal, or memory stick. A slight glitch, no doubt my error, was quickly resolved by the prompt, thorough and courteous support team. It's not often one encounters such a high level of service. Bravo! I can't recommend them or the product enough. The best back-up program I've ever used by far.

Many thanks for the wonderful software!!! I own many different backup applications (including ones that cost $70+) and Second Copy is the only one that I would highly recommend. Set-up is very easy and intuitive. Best of all with Second Copy you never have to worry about doing backups ever again...they happen automatically without fail! (like the infomercial man says, "you just set it and forget it!") :) Having had two major system crashes before, I sleep very well knowing I have a duplicate copy of all of my files on my external drive. The FTP feature in Second Copy 7 gives me extra security that most larger programs don't have: simple off-site backups (something that is critical in the event of a fire, flood, etc.). Try this software out. You will not be disappointed!

I have been testing Second Copy for several weeks, vs. another backup program to use with my NAS drive. I had an unrelated problem yesterday that made it necessary for me to do a system restore on my laptop. I first loaded my most recent full drive image backup that I made using Aprcorn's software, a couple of weeks ago. That worked perfectly. I then attempted to restore the recently updated files using the other backup software that had been running throughout. It was a disaster. It took a horrendous time for the other porgram to identify all of the files for each job, and it only showed files up through its own install date, even though I know that the more recent files are on still the NAS drive, but not accessable via the program. I experimented for hours, and I finally gave up and went to restoring via Second Copy, using my profiles that had been running on my desktop, capturing data from the laptop. That was the first time I had tried the Restore process using Second Copy, and I was stunned by the speed of the file identification process, and how nicely it isolated and presented those files that were updated or created after my last full image restoration. I was able to very quickly and effectively get all the newer stuff reloaded back to the laptop. That experience made the decision for me. I have now loaded a trial copy of SC on my laptop, and have purchased a second license. Thanks for providing a very elegant program that actually delivers what it promises.

Been using SC for years and years now - Upgraded to SC 7 when it became available and it's become an even rounder product covering all aspects of what I need in such an intuitive, and elgantly simple way. This is a no fuss tool. What I would really like to see though, is support for Chinese character (unicode) files. These files do not get copied. I have to use another program for that. Using SC I have always had peace of mind but the non copying of unicode files, for me, and I'm sure all the other Chinese and unicode style languages will agree that peace of mind is not 100% while these files are not being copied. Many kudos for a long-lived, well-supported, indispensible program that's also well-designed, easy to use, and easy to learn. Second Copy has saved many clients from very messy disasters. FYI, a favorite application is in small companies who can't afford serious high-speed backup or full workgroup file stores. I simply pair them up, each employee with his/her neighbor, and have Second Copy clone their work-files onto each other's computers.

This is such an unbeatable product ! I had to repair WINDOWS XP and things went wrong somehow. So, Microsoft technicians told me that the only solution available was to RE-INSTALL the whole system, as the result of which, all of the files I had in my PC, would be DELETED. So the system was totally re-formatted. A few weeks later, when I had already lost all of my hopes..there, plain as day.. I saw "MY DOCUMENTS II" !, meaning that "MY DOCUMENTS" had been deleted but not the one I'm referring. Then I remembered I had saved my files by using SECOND COPY. Oh My God ! Well done on the new version. I tried a few alternative products before upgrading. Second Copy's advantages are the scheduler which handles overdue backups by running them when it gets the chance (unlike XP's task scheduler which just skips if it can't run a job on time). But best of all is the file picker to include or exclude files, with both a free view and a text box. This is where other backup utilities fall down (have you tried including/excluding files and folders with XP's built-in backup utility? - Aaargh!) With Second Copy it's easy to set up complex patterns for excluding files. Great.

SC rules! I have tried many other backup apps over the years and all are pretty bad. SC really has got it right - simple, intuitive, fast. One has to plan the backup strategy no matter what app one uses - once setup it is flawless. SC has made it so elegantly simple. This is one app well worth the price.

Excellent bit of kit, I've Just found V7 after using 2000 for years, I like the email notification, testing that now. I've used this out in Iraq when sand and dirt caused server tape backup drives to fail, so we used this to shadow copy all data with NTFS perms to other drives. Saved our bacon a few times. Previous poster, make sure Outlook is closed and you dont have active synch running, that will lock your PST file from Sec copy.

Tried the BETA... WOW!!! ... TOTALLY incredible... Intuitive and great automated backup system.. I have not tried the FTP backup ... but... once you get everything set up.. it WORKS.. even the e-mail notification... the wizards are helpful... better to use the custom and use the advanced settings... One drawback... on a SIMPLE COPY you can keep extra copies of previous backups.. but.. on the Exact Zip .. you cannot... VERY happy!!! Would and did recommend to others... still testing.. all is GREAT... Well DONE.. a big improvement on the old version

I've been using Second Copy for some time now to complement my disk imaging backup software by backing up files on drives I don't want to image, and it's been great - reliable, simple, and inexpensive. I recently added a remote network drive to backup image files to using Second Copy, and had a few problems with network speed and time stamps. An email to Centered tech support over the Labor Day weekend was answered promptly (I was expecting a response the following week!), and pointed me to the Hidden Options (see the Help file), which had the solution to both of my problems. Kudos to Centered for both an excellent piece of software and excellent tech support! Max Icon <maxicon13@yahoo.com>

I was just reading tonight an extensive article in PC World september 2005 edition, on big Drive Backup. Just looking at the prices of the 'professional" backup software discussed in the issue, and the fact that not one of them, will do all that Second Copy has been doing for me, perfectly, for more than a year, says it all. Someone should tell those guys about Second Copy. Or...then.. maybe not. Cheers and thanks for the (disk) memories!

I've been using SecondCopy for years now, and can't raise it highly enough. It's one of those (rare) software utilities that does one thing, and does it very well. It's intuitive, easy to use, flexible within fairly narrow limits, and just works. Amazing - Microsoft should have these guys in their development teams. Oh, and the few times I've had strange problems, Support was always ready with help within twenty four hours, usually leading to me discovering that I had misunderstood a configuration option. I once had a strange bug but Support found a workaround for me and passed on the problem I had seen to their development team for analysis. That's probably why SecondCopy is so good - they really care about what they're doing. My compliments.

I am a registered user of second copy and have been using it successfully for a number of years, without any problems. One of several uses I find helpful is to synchronize my laptop with my desktop when I return from a trip. Somehow my laptop had its date changed back one year (probably because I had been fooling around with something and forgot to change it back.) So when I got home some vital files on the laptop were apparently lost due to being overwritten by the desktop's later date. In despair I decided to study more about second copy and discovered (for the first time) the "archives" folder. And there were my vital files from the laptop!! Later, in looking at the log I see where the saving transfer took place. You folks should be congratulated in having a very useful and thoroughly thought out program. I have recommended it to others and now feel even more justified.

I was looking for a backup tool to replace the software that came bundled with my "One Touch" external firewire hard drive. I wanted an easy to use interface, good documentation and helpful support, which Second Copy delivers on. I compared Second Copy to two other leading tools, but they lacked an easy to use interface, and were hampered by missing or obscure documentation. The people at Centered were very helpful and responsive to my questions about how their software mirrors folders. With their help, I was able to setup two profiles that backup the My Documents folder as well as one to backup a data folder used by an application that stores its data under its own folder. You do lose the "One Touch" backup feature of the drive, but you can tell Second Copy to run a backup job periodically. I set mine to run every 15 or 30 minutes while I am working.

A great product that runs as advertised. It runs in the background and provides a wonderful sense of security. I like the fact that restores do not require special software. A great feature, rare these days, is superb tech support. They actually answer questions in a timely manner!

SecondCopy provides a clean way of automating file backups to a destination drive. I use it to do a weekly Full Backup into one directory path, and the remaining days of the week go into their own directory paths for incremental backups. To recover a file I merely use File Explorer to access the most recent backed up copy and bring it back to its original location. No having to hunt within a backup catalog using a proprietary application.

I purchase Second Copy 2000 in January 2001 and find it an excelent tool for the job it was designed for. I have issued many recomemdations of this product and will continue to do so. It is simple to set up and operate giving you the opportunity to browse wherever to locate the particular file to back up etc. If there is an error during the programmed back up process, the log will enable you very easily to locate the offending file and take the appropriate action. If your looking for a back up programme, look no further.

I always make it a point to try anything on my computers before I recommend it to a client. After installing and using it I have found it to be the most reliable backup solution available. I've never been fond of tape backups or their complicated software. With Second Copy, it's click-click-click and you're done! Great software at a great price. I've recommended it to 2 of my clients and they both love it. Thanks millions!

Second Copy 2000 is the most reliable backup software that I have used during my 30 year IT career. It performs flawlessly every day at the exact scheduled start times. I use it to back up our network, which consists of over 300 workstations. It is 1000 times better then any other network backup software that I have used. You did a great job writing this software and I highly recommend it.

I have found that Datakeeper's product wasn`t working as I wanted so then I tried Memeo, that kept failing and I was losing faith in it. Then I found 2ndCopy. Well done guys. I have just started bench testing this and it seems to work great. I wanted to copy source files from my network to a master slave drive - the other programs didn`t - but yours seems to work well. I struggled for about a week, with numerous e-mails to and from Iomega's technical help department, to get their REV 35 own back-up software to work properly. Eventually I gave up and was just about send the unit back to the supplier for a refund when I remembered Second Copy 2000. I have found that it works very well indeed and I now have a reliable back-up system. Is there anyone else out there who has had a similar experience with Iomega Rev 35 on WIN 2000 Pro using a Firewire port?

Over the past 15-20 years I have tried various backup schemes: a series of floppies each evening (no kidding!), tapes, zip files, 2nd IDE hard drives, external hard drives, internet backup solutions, etc. The 2nd IDE hard drives are the most convenient and speedy, but the software has never been easy to use, and now the XP platform makes it difficult to impossible. Second Copy 2000 is the best solution for our computers. Each box has a second hard drive, and I have set them to backup new and modified files every two hours. Combined with Office auto backup settings, even if we accidentally delete a working file, there is always a backup! When the software runs it does so without slowing down our computers, and doesn't require operator input. It just quietly creates a backup. Better yet, I don't have to use Second Copy to retrieve (restore) a lost file. I simply drag and drop it from my backup hard drive and I'm ready to go. This is a smart, fast, inexpensive and must-have software.

I downloaded the trial version of Second Copy, and had a technical question about chaining backups within a bat file. Emailed the help desk, and got a comprehensive reply. As it happens the information was in the manual, but at that stage I didn't know what I didn't know. So often an email goes unanswered, or answered late, or in an unhelpful manner, so to get such a prompt comprehensive reply was a refreshing change. The progam works flawlessly for me - running a backup as a Scheduled task over the network - and am about to buy the license after a very satisfactory trial period. Chris Blair

I just wanted to write and tell you that SecondCopy is not only a lifesaver but a marriage saver as well. I had been working on my wedding video for nearly 6 weeks when I had a catastrophic hard drive failure. Lucky for me I found SecondCopy weeks before and had set up a profile to copy all video files to my removable hard drive every 10 mins. Simply put, Second Copy 2000 is the easiest and best backup software around. I’ve used several different brands, and none come close to the ease of use, and dependability of Second Copy 2000. Most of the time I forget it’s running, until I need something I’ve set to backup. Without exception I can depend on it being there, not just some of it, but all of it. Thank-you Centered Systems.

Secondcopy 2000 is a great program. I backup 200 Gigs every night with it. I've dumped my tape system completely. It would be great if it could backup Windows NT system state. An excellent backup utility, it does everything well and is stable and reliable. It still has no competitors as far as I can see, so there is no need to update it. I have been using it since Second Copy 97. I am pleased that it has not been updated for a long time, unlike so many other products that reach a point of excellence and then the developers stuff it with unnecessary extra features and end up making it worse or less stable.

Secondcopy did just exactly what I was looking for from a backup solution. I use it backup my windows based laptop to an external hard drive at home as well as to a Unix machine at work. Although I had some problems with the latter during evaluation, the support team were great at responding with suggestions and it was sorted out with two email exchanges, so even the support is excellent. I have used Second Copy for years and have found you can copy anything to anywhere you like and used this feature with a Pocket PC. I purchased an iPAQ 2210 and I use folders and subfolders to track my jobs for business. I use word, Excel, and Text documents to keep track of costs, estimates, and information in different customer folders. The iPAQ only allows files to be synchronized, if you place them into one iPAQ folder. (One root folder without subfolders) I used Second Copy with wild cards to selectively synchronize any changes, additions, or deletions to my customer file system. Not only is Second Copy able to keep them synchronized, it also constructed the folders and subfolders just like the file system on my PC.

Hi guys, I would just like to say that Second Copy really is "outstanding". I have searched for a piece of software which would back up my files without needing my awful memory to get involved. Second Copy is the dream solution. I have already benefited from it's backup when my disc failed in June this year, I lost NOTHING as it backed everything up on my second disc at 03:00 that morning whilst I was sleeping. As for improvements to Second Copy - sorry, but it does everything I need so I can't think of one!- Keep up the superb work. :) Kindest regards Mac

I downloaded the trial version of Second Copy about a year ago and found it perfect for my needs. I paid the very reasonable registration fee and have used the program with great satisfaction ever since. Recently computer problems lead me to build a new system and I needed to reinstall Second Copy, but I couldn't find my registration code. Late one evening I sent an email to Centered Systems asking if they might have a record of my code and, if so, if they would mind sending it to me again. Given the poor after-sale support I've experienced with a lot of software companies, my expectations were low. Next morning, when I checked my mail, there was a reply from Centered Systems, complete with my registration code. When I wrote again to thank them for the GREAT service, they actually wrote back to thank me for my gratitude. I would recommend these guys to anyone in need of a backup solution.

I can't believe I haven't heard of this program before. I found this out through Bradbury Software. I search high and low for a backup solution about a year ago. I had Dantz Retrospect product which came with my Maxtor One Touch. That was the worst software I have ever used. They made something so simple so complicated it was frustrating. I am currently using BounceBack Pro which is pretty good. Second Copy 2000 just makes so much sense and is so easy to use. You guys got it right!!! Looking forward to Second Copy XP or something. Second Copy is a great program and I've always used it. At the same time I should say that its preformance is unacceptable and it missed some good feautures. E.g. I need to backup the files which from a PC where those files don't actually changed but they are being added or removed. So I have just to synchronize them rather than check out that files content has been changed. So why not implementing a sort of option: on which basis to compare files 1) byte to byte 2) date only (or smth like this). Anyway thanks a lot for your outstanding program

I just read through the comments by other customers and found a few of them complaining about infrequent updates of the secondcopy. I am in the software development bussiness and know that a lot of companies would just rush out their products without sufficient testing and then release numerous "updates" or "patches", which could only cause potentially problems when costomers do the upgrades. Some even charge customers for such minor releases. I have been using SecondCopy 2000 for more than three years and found it very stable and feature rich. There is no point to have more releases or updates unless there are some really great new features I can not imagine which I believe Centered is working on :-) Anyway, thanks for such a great product, which has saved my butt several times!

About a year ago I installed Second Copy and set it to copy everything on my three internal HDs to my three external HDs every night while I sleep. Then I simply forgot the program was even there. A couple of weeks ago my computer simply died - and I almost died along with it. All my pictures (I'm an artist-photographer), all my financial date for 15 years, all my business correspondence - gone! I almost had a heasrt attack. And then I remembered those three external drives under my desk! Got a new computer, hooked it up and VOILA! All my data was intact - not one byte missing - thanks to Second Copy! Second Copy saved my life and my business. Having a computer failure is not a question of "if", just "when".

I'm using Second Copy for quiet a while now and I'm a very happy users. The backups are 100% reliable and the program never crashed or slowed down my system! Sadly enough we haven't seen an update in quite a while. What I would like to see included? Real-Time backup like BackupOnDemand does including its archive function. I need that for all my graphics work. Every time when I save a file in a 2D or 3D program, BackupOnDemand will make an archived copy in my archive folder. This way I can always go back a few versions when I mess things up. SecondCopy only does scheduled backups. Please include real time backup. Thanks for this great program!

Second Copy is AWESOME. I now backup my critical data to a second drive in under a minute, and use it to port data to my notebook in seconds. Your program delivers power and flexibility. I highly recommend Second Copy to anyone that needs to move data around. I've had no experience with your tech support dept., because I've had no problems! Years ago I spent a lot of time writing and editing batch files in DOS to do what you guys do in seconds. I'm often a groucy customer with other companies that just don't deliver, but I give you an A+ all around. Thanks for making my life easier, saving me time, and protecting my data. -Greg Sweitzer

Until using Second Copy, remote users in our organization on laptops had to either leave their laptop on the network over night to be included in the nightly network backup, or do the backups themselves. With SC, our laptop users have a new freedom and the highest level of comfort knowing that as soon as they leave the network all their important work is stored on the file server. It even moves the files while they're on VPN! The program was INCREDIBLY easy to setup, and we had a firm understanding of the software within minutes of installing the trial version. We purchased a copy for all laptop users within hours. Great work on a great utility and a great price....

I looked at four other backup products, all had some shortcoming. Then I tried Second Copy and found it easy and flexible. Backing up was a chore before, now it is automated and transparent. I back up 500+ user files to my CD RW drive every night automatically. It just updates any changes I've made to the documents or folders. I had a problem with one of the configurations I tested, sent a note to their email support and got a reply prompty. Better yet, the problem was identified being with my CD writing software, it just needed to be updated. They even provided the link. Great product, great support. Give it a try, you'll like it. I'm glad I did.

I realised I needed an app to run in the background and copy my web development files every hour. After running it to create a "mirror" D: Drive for just over the 30 days evaluation period (it didn't self-destruct!), I shut the PC down, disconnected the C: Drive and made the D: Drive the C: Drive and booted up just as though nothing was changed. I use Second Copy every day! It is very important for me to have desktop and laptops synched. Yes, it's easy to cut and paste with Windows Explorer but Second Copy does it all! I set up "profiles" for each application that I am transferring over. Like for my court reporting software, I tell it NOT to transfer the "litter box" as it's called in this app. But everything else it transfers. I have it do an EXACT copy so it deletes the old stuff from the laptop and synchs it exactly with the desktop. It is WONDERFUL. I have 4 apps: My Documents, CaseCatalyst, SearchMaster and Quicken. Since I tell Quicken to create the backup in Word, then I just have 3 apps to transfer. You can see the "log" of what's it's copying over (and, since I tell it do to EXACT, what it's deleting). If you're too scared that it will mess up (it doesn't), then tell Second Copy to make a "simple copy" and not delete the old files. After you do a backup once, then it's quick because Second Copy looks for dates. It doesn't overwrite stuff just for the sake of copying. It only acts on it if the last date it sees is before the date you're actually doing the backup. SECOND COPY is a P L E A S U R E!!! ALSO: their tech support is great. I had a question and the email response was quick and to the point.

I just downloaded and tried Second Copy on the Internet. Many of the programs I tried before back-up in a compressed format, often very complicated to use. When you loose data, you want to get it back fast. You do not want to go through tapes of archives and find that the one you need happens to be corrupted. This program is just what I need and I recommend it.

This is a 'buy and forget' program. It does what it is supposed to do, simple and reliable. We have a small peer to peer network, 15 users. I use SC2k to back up user's files. Nothing installed on their systems, just on the file server. I make the user's '\my documents' folder shared, read only, passwork protected. No one else can see their files, SC can. Transparent and very fast. And when someone deletes a vital file "I don't know where it went!", I can restore it in a few seconds. I also use it to do weekly archives of our membership database, again simple and efficient. As a non-profit (for Olympic shooting sports) we can't afford the fancy high end software. SC doesn't cost much, and it does what we need it to do.

Have searched high and low for a reliable backup program that will NOT compress my data into an unusable format - I've lost data before due to HD crashes, etc. I am a photographer/artist with thousands of images to protect and Second Copy is the ultimate answer for me. It backs up my two internal HDs to my two USB external HDs at night while I sleep, using the synchronization option so that the backup is always the same as the original. I no longer worry about my internal drives crashing. I have tried about a dozen programs and Second Copy is the ONLY one that does exactly what I need it to do. And these people are marvels at support - I had one glitch which was my own fault as it turned out, but my email to their tech support was answered immediately with the solution. Further, Second Copy doesn't employ a bunch of useless bells and whistles just for the sake of adding arcane "features" to pad the code and add to the price. Use it and sleep well for a change.

I've used Second Copy 97 for quite a while now for backing up to hard disk and CD-ROM. It has been simple to get to grips with and, until recently, I've had no problems. When I found that not all files were being copied to CD-ROM and I couldn't resolve the matter I tried emailing Customer Services. In truth I expected either no reply or to be referred to reams of FAQ's, which seems to be the norm with software companies. What a pleasant surprise to get a courteous reply only 2 days later, with several suggestions to try. I only needed the first one to solve it. Excellent service and a great product. Many Thanks.

This is a must have item. I use Second Copy to keep an up to the minute current copy of my desktop data files on a notebook. My desktop hard disk recently had a physical failure which caused it to be a complete loss, however the disruption was kept to a minimum because I was able to keep working using my notebook and then eventually copied of the data files back to the desktop and onto a new hard drive. Hard disk crashes will happen and you must be prepared.

If you're reading this guestbook trying to figure out why you should give Second Copy 2k a try, man, I wanna tell you this; if you're serious about backup or otherwise, making your data available throughout your network, this little wonder will amaze you how fast, reliable and lean a file copy solution can be. It's blazing (I said BLAZING) fast and don't mess with your Windows system during install. ... because I HATE installations that mess with my systems! This application gives me piece of mind the way I've always wanted. May God bless you people at Centered Systems.

I love using Second Copy 2000 on my home computer (with Windows XP and a CD-RW drive). It makes backing up so fast and easy -- unlike many other programs that I have used in the past. I was so pleased with the program that I ordered a copy for my computer at work and recommended it to my friends.

Anyone that values their data should buy this program. It well lives up to its award of being the "Best Overall Utility for 2001" (& 2000). It's the best overall utility I've ever seen. The program is simple, and works perfectly (yes, it works with XP too). There doesn't appear to be anything else out there quite like it. I've always used batch files for doing backups (Xcopy with the /d date switch) , but I tried this utility, and it sure looks good. It runs in the background, automatically updating backups at whatever intervals you specify, which seems a lot more reliable than having to remember to manually run the batch file (or whatever backup scheme you're using). Also, it's worth noting that if you use Xcopy to back up a locked file, it will fail, AND, when this happens, Xcopy actually deletes the existing backup. Not good. When Second Copy tries backing up my locked Outlook PST, I get a notification: "Second Copy 2000 - File in use". Unlike Xcopy, Second Copy does not then proceed to delete the existing backup. Much better than a batch file.

Hi there :-) Since some days, I use Second Copy 2000 Build 6.2.0.37 -- it's time for some comments. First of all: Second Copy is a really great tool. It does its job in an efficient, unobtrusive way. That’s a lot in those times of marketing ad polluted kernel space ;-) It didn't lie -- it said "Simple Copy" and does just that. No "enhanced", proprietary, unreadable, "special" backup format, which couldn't be verified with ones one test suite. Just a plain, straight copy. I could even use plain Unix-diff to suit my paranoia ;-) It does real network backup, i.e. my target is a linux box with the samba-CIFS-implementation. FreeBSD and AIX also work. When I did use NFS -- and a Windows-NFS-client, of course --, Second Copy didn't bother. It just works, if there is a UNC. Again, plain, boring standard behaviour. Remark: "Standard" refers to real standards like ISO or ANSI, not that "Everyone use it"-blather. I like boredom in computing. No upset customer, no whining managers -- spell that "Dilbert" --, no loss of data, confidence, money and time. Wow. Great stuff. That's the way, a tool should work. A lot of worth, I've got for a low fee. Of course, I've purchase a license ;-) Second Copy made it on my -- pretty small -- list of "useful tools". I recommend it for every backup needs in small to medium homogenous -- i.e. Windows -- environments. Thank you and keep that good work up ;-) cya :-) Martin "vi" Lange

I had so much stuff to back up that I was was getting scared that I would loose it all. I started looking on the Internet for backup software and found SecondCopy. I downloaded it and was immediately able to make it backup my files the way I wanted, even set the number of backups. It worked smoothly across the network picking the files I requested and putting them where I wanted, the way I wanted. It was so easy, I purchased one those USB boxes that lets you install a hard drive. I stuck in a 40GB drive and now all my photos, email, web sites, databases, financial data is backed up on the network and copied to the USB drive. Now, when I fly to China, I grab the USB drive and can plug it into my laptop. I'm not a compupter person and I've tried many backup solution, some of them expensive. I always came away frustrated or worse off than before. SecondCopy works, it's easy, it's affordable.

I first discovered this about 18 Months ago when I lived in England. I begged the accounts dept for 2 wweeks to write a check in USDollars to pay the register fee. We had 25 Laptop users who didn't know how to backup or sync their DATA to the network once they returned to the office. This SECOND COPY 2000 does just the Job, or my job at that time. So simple, easy to use, works and it's a great price for any small business and best of all it saved me hours of user problems with lost/delete and not backed up Laptop DATA. Thanks Guys.. This has to be the best back up utility available. It's easy to install, incredibly easy to configure, and offers a great number of options from which to choose. I bought it after only a couple of days of use and now, after a month of daily use, I am completely satisfied. I use it to maintain a current copy of My Documents on a second hard drive and it has never let me down. The beauty of working in the background so as not to interfere with what else is going on, coupled with the choices that are offered for backups and formats, make this my number one program. I only wish I'd heard of it earlier so I wouldn't have experienced a four-month loss of critical files.

I've used Second copy for personal backups for over a year and always thought to be a wonderful bargain. Now that I'm evaluating for adoption by a client, I'm discovering several wonderful new (for me) features: - It can be run as a service on our Windows 2000 server (and therefore schedule it for overnight backups while no one is logged on!) - It preserves the access controls of the original files - There's an alternative naming convention for the past versions of files that is perfect for our project needs. (See "Hidden Options" in the Help file.) Forgive me if this sounds like a paid commercial announcement. The fact is that I'm just a satisfied user giving praise where praise is due.

Used your demo version for a few days (copying data from one drive to another), when my computer system crashed. Needed to replace the motherboard, CPU and memory. Unfortunately, the service techie, erased my C drive. I needed to restore all application and operating system software (this was no small feat!). Thanks to your software, I had most of my data backed up (several years worth of financial data), and recovering the data from the second disk drive was the easiest part.

Fantastic software. Have been using 2nd copy 97 version, and now am upgrading to 2000. I use it to mirror our server to a little used big drive machine in our print dept. All pc's have mapping to " The 2nd Server". If the main server has a drive crash, power supply problem, etc. The pc's can start using the 2nd server like NOW. I can confidently leave the office knowing that even if we have a " fatal disk error" on the server, my business will continue to run without me there to fix things. Mr fix-it can now go on holidays. exactly what I wanted. Those that did not include Norton Ghost, McAfee Safe & Sound. I hope you stay in business and keep updgrading with each new Windows Release. I have had two hard-drive failures and each time I bought a new CPU with a later Windows release. Each time, my backups were then incompatible and made restoration much more difficult. First time was a HP-Colorado tape drive for Windows 95 that would not work with Windows 98. Second time, was the backup utility in Windows 98 that was abandoned by Microsoft and is no longer supported by the original company. Now I'm trying a small vendor. Keep up the good work. You clearly understand what users need and want.

I've searched and searched and searched for *the* backup utility. I didn't want to have my archives in some proprietary format but in the defacto standard ZIP. You'd be surprised how many lack this! I wanted something that would backup directories, but not certain stuff in those directories. Something that archived huge trees (My Documents is nearly 600M, zipped!) without bringing my system to a crawl. I wanted something that could do those basic things... and then I found Second Copy 2000. It does this and MORE! It is so stinkin' easy to use, anyone could set up a backup in seconds! I did one backup and smiled when it was done and immediately registered. This puppy is waaaay worth it! And while other companies suck in support, these guys rule! Back again . . . I'm running Second Copy 2000 on my backup server (w2k2000as), and using a utility called Arcana Scheduler (which runs as a service)to fire up Second Copy. The Arcana Scheduler over-rides the scheduler built into Second Copy and will hit the ground running as soon as my machine boots up! Basically, Second Copy will run this way totally unattended. Since I had the Arcana Scheduler already running on that machine for other apps, this was an inexpensive (free) alternative to purchasing the w2k Resource Kit. Also, I've gotta hand it to your support staff, I've contacted those guys on a couple of occasions with questions and POW! They were right there with the answers! Great product and great support!

Fantastic! - This is *exactly* the utility I've been looking for. I can't say enough about this product. It is easy to use, completely automatic, and absolutely reliable. I gave it a low mark on documentation ONLY because I prefer to have a hard copy of a user's manual and the program help assumes a certain level of knowledge about backup utilities which new users may not have. However, I have never experienced such prompt and detailed responses from customer support as I have gotten from support@centered.com. No "Auto Reply" and their people actually READ the body of your e-mail, not just reply to the subject line with boilerplate text as it seems most other software company's "support" do. For that alone, I would happily pay twice the very reasonable registration fee!

Outstanding product that gives everything it promises and even more. Having a small problem after converting from Windows 98 to Windows ME, I received help within minutes and a complete follow-up until everything is working as fine as ever before with their latest release of software. This is the first time that I say this about a software and its support : SUPER. And all that for a programme that can be sold for such a low price.

Second Copy 2000 is what all software should be. Simple to use and reliable. It is focused at the one specific task only and does that task very well. A refreshing change from all that software that just has features for features sake and tries to do everything, but nothing properly. It was a good day when I discovered Second Copy 2000 and bought a licence. I'll never look back, goodbye bloated and cumbersome-to-use backup programs. I have something much better now!

An absolutely fabulous program - easy to use, intuitive, yet sophisticated enough to perform many advanced tasks. An incredible value for the price, I would purchase Secondcopy over many other programs that cost 5 and 6 times as much. Lastly, let me just say that the folks at centered systems are EXTREMELY helpful - our company was trying out their product and the support staff provided us with prompt, accurate solutions for our problems - all before we'd even decided to pay for the product! Needless to say, we're purchasing a copy for our office and I'm recommending this software to anyone and everyone. Thanks again, Centered Systems!

I have been in the computer business for 20 years and this is the second time that I have sent a response expressing extreme satisfaction with a product. I was using the synchronization that comes with Windows 98 to synchronize 2.5G of data. I had to separate out the *.mdb files, reboot before running, reboot after running, do lots of manual recovery and then it took about 20 minutes for each synchronization session. Second Copy 2000 handles everything - including my PaperPort search index and the *.mdb files. It saved 1G of space by allowing me to synchronize the years worth of data only. And it does the synchronization in 90 seconds. Its magic! And I am not using but maybe 20% of the program. Its amazingly easy to use - I learned how to use it in about 5 minutes. Good job!

There is no better backup program in existence. We use it with a 1GB Jaz drive and use MS Task Scheduler to load it at 5 pm everyday (rather than have it run in the background all day). My staff has been thankful for the Archive function, particularly where we accidentially save over one of our templates. Don't bother wasting your time trying the other backup programs, this is the only one you'll need to try.

Well, what can I say? I spent a few hours downloading all sorts of synchronisation software and evaluated all versions against my requirements. Second Copy 2000 was the 4th out of the 11 products I was evaluating and I made my mind up there and then that this would fit 90% of my needs. So I deleted all the others in favour of SC2000. All I need to do now is convince Centered Systems to add the others 10% of features I am looking for and this will then be the ultimate synchronisation product. Wish list on the way……

I am so happy today, I have for weeks sought to find a piece of software to run the task of synchronizing files on my tiny little home LAN. It might seem like an easy quest, but it took me weeks to find THE ONLY solution Second Copy 2000. Scavenging around in shareware I soon realized that nothing fulfilled the three basics, it had to work on a LAN, be automated, and work (!). You guys are wizards, this is not only an extraordinary user-friendly and efficient utility, it set the standard for its kind of utility. I will recommend Second Copy 2000 to everybody crossing my path. Thank you for an innovative tool. I can not praise it enough. And at a very reasonable price too!. And your website is very neat too.

This software is perfect for my needs! I have a music server with about 20 GB of music for the Radio station, and your software allows me to keep a HOT standby, always updated (daily) with the latest music and commercials for the radio station. While I also keep a tape backup, in our business, time is of the essence, and I'm able to keep my backup on a hard drive, which in an emergency could be used directly on the air. I was especially grateful that I could download and use a non-crippled version for several days to assure myself your product would fulfill my needs! What I need is a mirror image, not archive copies, and this software does it! I especially appreciate the fact the the software will delete files from the backup when they are deleted in the original. This keeps my backup from getting bigger than the original. (The tape supplies my archive backup!) Again, great product and I was happy to license it - its a real value! Don Coleman Chief Engineer WXLC/WKRS Radio

As you have heard over and over, congratulations on a terrific product. However, I am here to congratulate you on your outstanding technical support which is the best I have ever seen. Recently I sent you an e-mail (on a Friday night) suggesting some new features for the next release of Second Copy. Amazingly enough, within an hour or so, I received a response from an actual person, and it was extremely thorough and competent and pointed out to me how to accomplish what I wanted to do with Second Copy 2000. Now I wish I had accepted the half-price upgrade offer which expired a few months ago and will have to pay the full price of $29.95 which is still an amazingly low price for such a terrific product. Keep up the great product and the amazing technical support!!! Thanks, Ron

As a small business that provides data management to Fortune 500 companies it's important that I have archived records that I can retrieve. I started out by using tapes but the tape drive didn't work well in W98 so I considered CDs. After figuring out that this would be a manual process swapping the disks out I decided on a multiple hard drive set-up with continual back-up along with daily, weekly, and monthly backups as well. I can't remember where I found your product but I decided to try it, it was exactly what I was looking for.

Last Friday night I was installing a copy of W2K on a partition of my main drive set up to accept an operating system. I had done this many times before but never w2k and this version had an altered install routine. I pushed the install button and watched all three partitions on my main drive disappear and reformat before my eyes, everything was gone. To say I was panicked was an understatement, three years of data gone.

After I regrouped I pulled an all-nighter to reinstall all of the programs then it was time to restore the data. Within one hour I had all data restored and the only thing I lost was 3 days of e-mail and that is because I missed backing it up on a continual and daily basis.

To say that your product saved my hide is an understatement, I can't tell enough people about your great product. Please keep up the great development!

Suddenly, right after having sent a routine msg to a correspondent, my Eudora Pro 3 program couldn't write an S (for sent) into the OUT mbx because that mbx "wasn't there"! Each & every single msg in the OUT mbx of my Eudora Pro 3 had simply disappeared, gone, wiped out, 100% clean. I will never know how or why; maybe it just hates me! Ah, what joy it was to simply copy those two .toc and .txt files from that H.Disk D back into H.Disk C, what bliss! You saved the day, SecondCopy; even though this is but private & somewhat insignificant stuff, it is still a major royal pain in the u-no-what to have one entire OUT Mbx disappear. Remains a reliable, easy to use solution that is as versatile as needed. Works great for customers who only want local installations for records management software we are a dealer for. Since these are database-based applications, backups are a must. With Second Copy, customers who might not have bothered with backup only need to swap disks once a day. Very good stuff. And I also used it at my office.

This is my second entry in your Guest Book. "Second Copy" has saved my bacon on a couple of occasions now. The last was when I upgraded from MS Office 97 to MS Office 2000. The upgrade process went fine - so I thought!-but my accumulated e-mail lists plus Address Book entries got corrupted, and were not recoverable in the new "Local Settings" or the old "Applications" folders. However - I had regular backups saved to a CD-RW drive, which I copied across, thereby breathing individuality back to a rather empty e-mail application! It has paid for itself very quickly! Moral: If you are upgrading - don't download the latest e-mails from your ISP until you know things are safe!

Hi, I've used Second Copy for about a year, (I think). It's a program that I don't really have much interation with, (and that's what I want - I've got enough super-sophisticated stuff on my computer to keep me occupied forever trying to fathom out how it all works). But since I installed Second Copy it's saved my bum 3 times. Once when my 'uncrashable' computer died because of a power failure and the other 2 times when I did a mass update of our business database with incorrect information. In each case I was back in business within minutes - because Second Copy had simply done what it was supposed to do - backing up files at the periods I set. It's great to find a product that does this, simply and without fuss and with 100% reliability.Cheers

I have two seperate hard drives, so I securely backed up critical data in my all important "C" partition (including OS and system files etc.)to desginated back up folders in the "E" partition. (Same physical drive), and also configured slightly longer term mirror backups in the "G" partition. (Different physical drive). So: If "C" needs to be formatted - I still have backed up data on "E". If that hard drive completely fails - I have backed up data on the other one. All major cab/set up files (Win98,IE5,Outlook98), are backed up on both physical drives. I look forward to future version enhancements...

Wow, this is finally it. I spent an entire day drudging through several other software apps that were supposed to do this. I must say that the simple interface is so refreshing and easy to use. This program simply does what it says. I'm using on a server to backup log-on scripts to our backup-server and it simply works, what else is there to say. If our normal log-on server hickups or goes off line our network pickups on the other server. Yippie no more manual file copies to make sure the scripts are the same. It's completely automatic. The only problem I have is the name. You should call it "A Second Copy 97", that way nobody else will have waist their time trying out all the other "backup/mirror" programs. It'll be at the top of the list!

I have been using SC97 for a while with an LS-120 disk and so far I'm very pleased with the effects. The best thing SC offers is to delete obsolete files from destination, ie. I do not have to worry about files that are not in use anymore and that would just occupy the space. Very helpful program. All my files backed up in 3-5 minutes, all fit on one disk.

I have to put my two cents in. As a database developer I generally have files all over the place in various stages of completion. I keep a Zip disk in a drive all the time now and let Second Copy take care of backing up all my development files. I don't have to worry about it, don't think about it, I just know it's being done. This is a great product for everyone who damn well knows they have to backup but don't quite always get around to it... in other words, for everyone. Great job.

We run a business on the web and needed to keep critical files backed up on our network PCs. After searching and trying many applications we settled on Second Copy 97. We looked no more! The interface is the easiest to use. The available options are exactly the kinds of choices we needed. What impressed me is your constant efforts to improve an already great product. Second Copy is worth every penny it is an excellent program that everyone should have! I needed a solution to back-up a permanently "switched-on" workstation overnight whilst away and it backs straight up to Zip disk! I don't often register shareware as I tend to find the majority of it gets resigned to the recycle bin within days, but SC97 was registered in 48 hours! Thanks!

Most of our users save their data on the network, but we have always had a problem getting laptop users data securely backed up. They are out of the office frequently, and their machines are usually unavailable at night, when the scheduled tape backup runs. This ruled out using a backup "agent" on the laptops. We finally found a solution- Second Copy 97. My users no longer have to use the briefcase utility to get their data up to the network, in fact they don't have to do anything, or answer any questions! This is just the way they want it. No error messages pop up when they are disconnected from the network, it simply quietly writes a message into the log stating that the destination was not available. I schedule it to copy when they startup each day (so when they are on the network, their data is backed up immediately), and also to run the copy every 2 hours. This flexibility is great, thanks for such a great solution, we bought a 25 user license.

I cannot possibly express how impressed I am with Second Copy. It is fabulous! It meets a need that NO other software has ever addressed (and I own LOTS of utilities). It is so well done that it is absolutely my favorite utility -- it makes me feel good all the time just knowing its there, it makes me feel good when I interact with it because it is so incredibly well designed and solid, and best of all it makes me feel ecstatic when it saves my bacon by resuscitating an earlier copy of a lost file (like it did a few minutes ago).I wish you all the very best success with Second Copy. Most sincerely,-- Scott

The more I use it, the better I like it.As a tool for NT replication (if you want more than one directory tree replicated - or copied - to, or from, other servers) it works a treat. Centered are working on a version that works as an NT service - so that it works even when no one is logged on to the server - to be released soon(?), but in the meantime , you can use SRVANY.EXE from the NT Resource Kit to install it as a service (if you want to know how, please feel free to drop me a line).

As someone who develops applications for customers, I have found this product indispensible. There is nothing worse than "improving" a product only to find later that you really wish you hadn't "fixed" it and your last backup does not contain the piece you want back. The multiple archive feature is excellent. Second Copy eliminates any concern for "Oh I should back this up first".

I've been a user of this little beastie for a few years now. I've also flogged it to a client or three down here in the Antipodes. For the small peer to peer network mob, it's ideal to use to back up the "server" data to a workstation...if the "server" expires, they use the data mirror image on the workstation and are back running in no time. For the bigger bays, it's just the trick for keeping a mirror image of critical data (payroll comes to mind) on the user's workstation ... network goes down but the punters still get their cash. Highly recommended ... as our Pommie mate from the UK says,it will save your bacon.
